CT Scans in Alberta: Overview

Computerized tomography (CT), formerly known as computerized axial tomography (CAT), is an examination in which computers create three-dimensional pictures from many x-rays taken of a part of the body. CT is most commonly used to assess conditions of the head, chest, abdomen and spine. Some CT examinations require special equipment and support services available only at a few facilities. Therefore, wait times between facilities may not be comparable.
